Recently, I attended the Winter Meeting of the Avantgarde Academy, a gathering of Europe’s leading wedding planners. On my way there, I took another look at the two-day program and came across the show act scheduled for the evening. It was listed as “Traumwandler.” I wondered what or who that might be.
After arriving in Pfronten, it gradually became clear that it was likely some kind of magician or similar performer. Fair enough, I thought to myself. But what Traumwandler ultimately presented was far beyond anything I had seen from magicians before.
Even during the get-together, Traumwandler moved from table to table and from group to group, using astonishing mind-reading to break the ice and spark conversations. It was not the usual “pick a card” routine, but a combination of surprising, humorous, and highly charming illusions.
The evening show then became an incredible highlight. Deeply emotional moments flowed almost seamlessly into bursts of laughter and an atmosphere of pure joy. I had never experienced anything quite like it, and was therefore delighted to have the opportunity to meet Traumwandler the next day for a brief “Five Questions” interview.
“Klaus, before we get into the magic, could you briefly tell us a bit about yourself?”
Klaus: “With pleasure. I have been performing magic for almost 20 years now and have specialized in corporate events and high-end private celebrations, especially weddings. Before that, I worked for many years in the financial sector, mostly in leadership positions. Throughout that time, I was constantly working with people and learned how to adapt perfectly to each individual. This combination is quite unique and, I hope, allows me to create truly distinctive shows.”
“That is certainly fair to say. Yesterday, during your stage show, you completely amazed all of us. Just thinking about one of the first acts with Tamara still gives me goosebumps. What can you tell us about your magic?”
Klaus: “When it comes to my magic, I always say this: if a guest believes I can perform magic in the traditional sense, then they have a problem. And if I stand there claiming that I can truly perform magic, then I have a serious problem. A dear colleague of mine often says at the end of his show: I use your five senses to make you believe I have a sixth.
That sums it up perfectly, and that is exactly where the entertainment begins. That is what it is all about for me. I do not want to convince anyone that I can perform real magic. For me, it is about using different techniques and approaches to take the audience on a magical journey. That is how I describe the experience I want to create.
No one comes to my shows to see me perform “real magic.” What the audience truly wants is to be amazed and to laugh at the same time, in other words, pure excitement. That is what I stand for. I see myself as a creator of enthusiasm. That is my philosophy.
What could be more valuable in our time than experiences that truly touch people? Memories that last. And that is exactly what makes my shows for weddings so incredibly meaningful.”
"I can absolutely understand that. We actually spent the entire evening talking about the experience. A different question: what is it like to work with you?"
Klaus: “It is wonderfully uncomplicated. The couple usually reaches out to me directly, and then we align their wishes and ideas with my program concepts. From there, a great proposal typically comes together quite quickly.”
"Speaking of price…?"
Klaus: “That question cannot really be answered in a simple way. It is like going to a restaurant and telling the waiter, ‘I would like to have a full meal.’ The answer could be, ‘I can pack up yesterday’s leftovers for you, that will cost nothing,’ or you might be offered a lobster platter for a few hundred euros.
It is similar in entertainment. I often see couples planning their wedding with great attention to detail, and in the end, they quickly book an artist from the internet. They check what the search engine suggests, look at the price, and think, ‘That fits our budget, let’s go with it.’ And then they are surprised when they get exactly what they booked, just some performer from the internet.
Do not get me wrong, there are many excellent colleagues out there. But finding someone who truly specializes in weddings and has extensive experience in this field can be challenging. That is why I take the time to understand what the couple really wants and then offer a fair price.
Pricing depends on various factors, such as the popularity of the date, New Year’s Eve is naturally priced differently than a Monday morning, as well as travel, duration of the performance, and more. It is a complex topic, but one that I always handle with transparency and fairness.
My promise to every couple is this: I take a relatively small share of your budget, but deliver a lasting impact of excitement and unforgettable memories.”
“Sounds great. You are based in the Rhineland. In which regions do you perform?”
Klaus: “I perform all across Europe and I am also happy to travel to other regions. That is never an issue. My show is easy to transport, and I truly enjoy discovering new cities and countries.”
“Does that mean you also perform your show in other languages?”
“English works very well. In other languages, I simply have not practiced enough.”
From these few questions and answers, it is already clear how professionally Traumwandler approaches his work. If you would like to learn more about him or his programs, take a look at www.dertraumwandler.de. And if you reach out to him, feel free to send him my regards.
