Free wedding ceremony in Upper Franconia – our Italian-inspired wedding
Italian joie de vivre, lemons, sunflowers, soft shades of light blue and plenty of personal details: for our free wedding ceremony in Upper Franconia, we wanted to create a wedding day that truly felt like us.
After our civil wedding, we did not simply want to follow it with another classic wedding celebration. Instead, we created a completely individual concept with Mediterranean flair, emotional rituals, delicious food, entertainment for our guests and a few surprises that almost no one knew about beforehand.
We celebrated at Gustav’s Hütte in Regnitzlosau. For us, it was the perfect place to combine a relaxed wedding with plenty of time outdoors, a free ceremony and a lively party.
Getting Ready and the Final Preparations
Our wedding day began for me with hair and make-up styling. Step by step, an ordinary morning turned into that very special moment when it slowly sinks in: today is actually our wedding day.
My bridal look included not only my wedding dress, but also carefully chosen hair accessories, while my husband completed his wedding look with his menswear.
While I was getting ready, he was already busy at the venue, setting up our XXL games and mini golf courses for the afternoon.
At the same time, preparations were already underway at the wedding venue. The decorations for the free ceremony and the indoor area were being arranged so that everything was ready for the day by the time we arrived.

First Look at Untreusee
Before heading to the ceremony together, we first met for our first look at Untreusee. It was a wonderful opportunity to intentionally take some time for each other before the actual free wedding ceremony began.
At the same time, this was where the first images from our wedding photography and our wedding videography were created, with the calm lakeside setting of Untreusee providing a beautiful backdrop for our couple portraits.
After all the weeks and months of planning and preparation, this moment almost felt like a little pause before the wedding day truly began.
Our colour concept was already visible here as well. My bridal bouquet combined white and light blue flowers with greenery and a bright sunflower, while my husband wore a boutonnière in coordinating colours.
Italian Wedding Concept in the Heart of Upper Franconia
Afterwards, we headed together to our free wedding ceremony, where our entire wedding concept was inspired by Italy and the Mediterranean.
Rather than recreating a traditional Italian wedding, our aim was to bring that special Mediterranean feeling to Upper Franconia. Lemons therefore played a central role in the design, while shades of yellow, light blue, white and green, together with recurring sunflowers, completed the overall concept.
This combination could be found throughout the wedding decoration, stationery, flowers, our wedding cake and even parts of the menu, creating a fresh and summery atmosphere around the rustic venue with a subtle touch of La Dolce Vita.
A Personal Wedding Ceremony in Upper Franconia
The heart of our day was, of course, our free wedding ceremony, which took place beneath our decorated wedding arch and was shaped by a very personal ceremony.
The musical accompaniment made the ceremony even more emotional and created several special moments, while our celebrant told our story and complemented it with different rituals that we had carefully chosen for our wedding.
Wishes on Our Lemon Tree
One detail that fit perfectly with our Italian-inspired wedding concept was our lemon tree, where our guests could hang wishes for our future together during the ceremony.
They wrote their wishes on small cards and then attached them to the tree, turning the lemon tree into more than just a decorative element. It also became a very personal keepsake from our free wedding ceremony.
Our Wedding Candle as a Meaningful Tribute
One of the most emotional moments was lighting our wedding candle, because we also wanted to remember the people who sadly could no longer be with us on this special day.
During the ceremony, we lit the candle together and consciously took a moment to think of them. This is one of the things I love about a free wedding ceremony: it gives you the freedom to include personal rituals that truly reflect the couple and their story.
Our Wedding Vows
Of course, our wedding vows were also an important part of the ceremony. We decided to write a shared set of vows, which we read to each other during the ceremony.
Our wedding rings also had their own special moment and marked the beginning of our journey into married life.

Champagne Reception, Congratulations and Time for Our Guests
After the ceremony, we finally had a moment to take it all in and raise a glass together with our guests. Drinks and small bites were served during the champagne reception.
All catering throughout the day, with the exception of our wedding cake, was organised directly through our wedding venue, which made it easy to integrate everything smoothly into the schedule.
During this time, there were of course plenty of congratulations, but it also marked the beginning of the deliberately relaxed part of our afternoon.
When planning the day, it was important to us that our guests did not simply have to wait between the different parts of the programme. Instead, we wanted them to be able to choose for themselves what they felt like doing.
XXL Games, Mini Golf and a Bouncy Castle
There was plenty to enjoy outdoors as well. Alongside a bouncy castle, our XXL games and mini golf courses were set up in the garden for everyone to use.
From mini golf to a variety of oversized garden games, both children and adults could join in, and the activities were enjoyed throughout the entire afternoon.
That was exactly the idea behind it for us: we wanted to offer entertainment without turning it into a compulsory wedding programme. Those who wanted to play could play, while guests who preferred to sit together, have a drink or simply chat were free to do just that.
Coffee, Cake and Our Bespoke Wedding Cake
Later in the afternoon, it was time for coffee and cake. Alongside a selection of cakes provided by the venue, we also served our own wedding cake.
Its design reflected our wedding concept once again, with light blue, white and yellow tones, floral details and lemons. At the same time, a mountain panorama was incorporated into the design, adding another personal connection alongside the Mediterranean theme.
Sunflowers were also featured throughout the cake design, creating a beautiful contrast with the softer shades of blue.
Photo Booth, Guest Book and Our Wedding Newspaper
In the afternoon, our guests could also use our photo booth. The pictures not only became lovely keepsakes for them, but also provided plenty of fun for the group photos, especially when different photo booth props were held up in front of the camera.
We also had a guest book where our guests could leave personal messages, as well as our self-designed wedding newspaper, which was particularly important to me.
I had designed it myself in advance, creating another very personal element of our wedding. Individual details like these were especially important to me during the planning process, because they help ensure that a wedding does not feel generic, but truly tells the couple’s story.
Mediterranean Table Decorations at Gustav’s Hütte
Our concept continued inside the venue, where the rustic wooden interior of the hut met light blue fabrics, golden details, candles, yellow roses and sunflowers.
We especially loved this contrast, because the table decorations did not have to compete with the character of the venue. Instead, the decor brought both styles together and created a warm, summery atmosphere.
Our menu cards were designed to match the overall concept, and there was also a candy bar indoors where guests could help themselves at any time. The drinks were arranged in the same relaxed way, allowing everyone to simply take what they wanted.
Italian Wedding Buffet
In the evening, the buffet was finally opened, and this was where our Italian-inspired wedding concept became especially noticeable in culinary terms.
The buffet included a salad bar, antipasti, a selection of warm dishes and a pizza buffet. There was also porchetta and salmon.
For dessert, our guests could choose between classic tiramisu and homemade yoghurt ice cream, allowing the Italian theme to continue right through to the final course.
For us, the food was an important part of the overall concept. Italy was not only meant to be reflected in the lemons and colours, but also to feel a little like Italy on the plate.
Games and a Secret Surprise for Our Guests
After dinner, we played a few games together, but at that point our guests still had no idea that one of the biggest surprises of the day was yet to come.
We had booked an LED performer for the evening and kept it completely secret, which made the show a genuine surprise for everyone.
What made it even more special was that the performance had been created individually for us. Photos of us and even our pets were incorporated into the LED show, turning a classic entertainment act into something very personal that truly reflected our story.
Bouquet Toss and Wedding Dance
Of course, the bouquet toss could not be missing either, before the day became especially emotional for us once again with our wedding dance.
Our DJane had not only accompanied us throughout the evening, but had already been responsible for the musical atmosphere during the entire wedding day.
For our wedding dance, the dance floor initially belonged just to the two of us before we later opened it together with our guests.
Team Bride vs. Team Groom
Right after our wedding dance, another surprise was waiting for our guests. To match the Football World Cup taking place at the time, we had prepared a small table football tournament.

The participants were drawn at random and then competed against each other. This kept the activity deliberately relaxed and fitted perfectly with our idea of not having our guests simply watch, but involving them actively in the wedding day again and again.
Party Into the Night
After that, there was no major programme planned anymore – and that was exactly how we wanted it. The dance floor was opened and we could simply celebrate and dance together with our guests.
After all the carefully planned moments throughout the day, it felt wonderful to simply let the evening unfold. Later on, there was also a midnight buffet for everyone who had worked up an appetite again from dancing.
At around 2 a.m., our wedding finally came to an end. After a day filled with emotional moments, surprises, delicious food, games, music and so many personal details, we were able to look back on exactly the kind of wedding we had wished for.
What Made Our Free Wedding Ceremony in Upper Franconia So Special to Us
Our wedding once again showed me that a wedding concept is not about combining as many trends as possible. What matters far more are the details that have a real meaning.
Our lemon tree, the wedding candle, our shared vows, a self-designed wedding newspaper, photos of our pets in a secret LED show and a spontaneous table football tournament between Team Bride and Team Groom – all of these individual elements made our wedding day truly ours.
At the same time, our free wedding ceremony in Upper Franconia showed that you do not necessarily have to travel to Italy to create a Mediterranean wedding atmosphere. With the right venue, a well-thought-out concept and the right wedding professionals, that special feeling can be brought to life here as well.
